default
Posted on Thu, 13 Jun 2019
Question: If I’m having discomfort in my left testicle & don’t have insurance, should I wait & see a PCP or a Urologist? Or simply go to the ER? I just need to make sure I’m okay ASAP.

Brief Answer:
Kindly more details are needed, a consult with an urologist is recommended

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I understand your concern.

The discomfort in the testicle can be related to a microtrauma or other conditions such as testicular torsion.

I would like to have more information about your symptoms.

How old are you?

Do you have any other symptoms such as burning while urination?

Are you sexually active?

Do you have any other medical conditions and do remember you taking any current medications?

I will be waiting for your answer to be able to help you better.

Meanwhile, you can use anti-inflammatory medication such as Ibuprofen for the discomfort.

If the discomfort continue I suggest a consult with an urologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you for your response. Am I okay enough to wait about a week or two to go to a Urologist or should i go now? Not having insurance & working two jobs prevents me from being able to go right away.

To answer your previous questions:
How old are you?
I’m 25

Do you have any other symptoms such as burning while urination?
I do not have any burning sensation or discomfort while urinating.

Are you sexually active?
Currently I am not sexually active with anyone but the last time was probably about a month ago with someone I was regularly having sex with.

Do you have any other medical conditions and do remember you taking any current medications?
I am not prescribed any medications and do not have any medical conditions. However, I have taken Adderall the last month.

Brief Answer:
Probably the symptoms are related to microtrauma of the testicle.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again ear,

Thank you for the additional information.

We can exclude the possibility of an urinary tract infection or a sexual transmitted disease.

The symptoms seem to be related to a microtrauma of the testicle which can wait until you see the urologist.

Meanwhile, I suggest to use anti-inflammatory medication for the pain such as Ibuprofen.

I also suggest to use loose pants and underwear.

If the discomfort changes into a considerable pain I suggest to go in the emergency room.

Hope my answer was helpful.

Take care dear,

Dr.Dorina Gurabardhi
