default
Posted on Fri, 26 Apr 2019
Question: I woke up last night with a burning sensation in my chest and at the same time had a fleeting moment of pain in my back lower left teeth. This lasted about 10 min, I got up had a glass of water and went back to bed. The discomfort subsided and I was able to go back to sleep. I recently started a new job and have been stressed and anxious and I have been unusually fatigued. My question is can I rule out a MI if I have no symptoms at all this am?

Brief Answer:
Your symptoms don't seem to be related to the heart.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome to Ask a Doctor service!

I understand your concern and would explain that the fact that you are pain free now is very reassuring that nothing serious is going on.

In my opinion, your symptoms seem to be related to acid reflux, as drinking water helped improve your situation.

For this, I don't think that you should panic.

Anyway, if this episode repeats, I would recommend consulting with your attending physician for a physical exam, a resting ECG and cardiac enzymes.

An exercise cardiac stress test would help investigate for coronary artery disease.

In the meantime, I would recommend taking an antiacid or PPI ( omeprazole, pantoprazole, etc) to help against acid reflux.
It is also important avoiding spicy food.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!
