Brief Answer:
Yes it is a common finding

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome in Ask the Doctor

I am sorry for your brother lost and I can understand your concern.

Yes if the stroke is massive it is a common finding in these patients especially if it was due to a head trauma.
There are several types of cranial hemorrhage

In subarachnoid hemorrhage, even without trauma, an artery on or near the surface of your brain causes bleeding which than bursts and spills into the space between the surface of your brain and your skull. This bleeding is often signaled by a sudden, severe headache. In severe cases it continues to bleed and as a result a hematoma of that area is formed as in your brother case.
