I Was Diagnosed With Seborrheic Ketosis On My Right Areola

default
Posted on Fri, 26 May 2023
Question: I was diagnosed with seborrheic ketosis on my right areola (I am male) a couple of years ago. It doesn't bother me though the areola is a bit discolored.. But the nipple itself develops a crust on it which eventually peels off and the skin feels normal. Then the crust returns. Could this be some kind of minute discharge from inside the nipple? I haven't noticed anything. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Better to get a mammogram done.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
Seborrheic keratosis is a non cancerous skin condition and it is a harmless one.
However we have to rule out a condition called “Pagets’ disease of breast” which might present with similar symptoms and it’s indicates an underlying cancer.
So you have to consult a general surgeon and get a mammogram done to look for any non palpable lump in the breast. You can also go for a histopatjology study of the discharge or scrapings from the crust to look for any cancerous cells.
Once the Paget’s has been ruled out, you can consult a dermatologist and take treatment for seborrrheic keratosis I required.
Wishing you good health.
Thanks

Thank you. How do you understand the crustiness on the nipple that peels off and then returns? I don't see any discharge and right now the nipple feels normal. About half a of the areola is always at bit discolored.
