Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain In Ear Canal After Using Crystal Meth

default
Posted on Mon, 26 Sep 2016
Question: I used crystal meth a short time ago for a couple of months. I started teeth grinding and stopped, but the teeth grinding has continued, and I now have severe pain in my inner ear canal. Is there a cause and effect or is my ear trouble a coincidence?

Brief Answer:
You are most probably having temporomandibular joint dysfunction

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the query.

I have read your query , reviewed your medications and understand your concern.

As per your clinical history it appears that you are most probably having temporomandibular joint dysfunction due to teeth grinding which result into ear pain .
But you will also need to rule out any ear pathology for ear pain by during ear examination from ENT specialist .

If I were your treating doctor , I would advice
stop teeth grinding & avoid crystal meth . Take help of psychiatrist .
For pain you will need anti inflammatory pain killer .

You will get relief .

Hope this information helpful to you .If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.

Regards.

I visited a dentist and oral surgeon and they both ruled out TMJ. I've had a cat scan and MRI which were both negative. I'm currently seeing a Neurologist who suspects Shingles in the inner ear and prescribed Neurontin the on the 10th of August with no relief of the pain at all.

Brief Answer:
Consult ENT specialist for complete ENT examination

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for follow up query .

Since your CT Scan & MRI are normal . It may be neuralgia due to Shingles or any other cause .

If I were your treating doctor , I would advice
consult ENT specialist for complete ENT examination to rule out any ENT pathology .

Stop teeth grinding , avoid crystal meth & continue Neurontin .

You will need anti inflammatory pain killer like Motrin for pain relief .

You may need to see your doctor to get a prescription for medications.

Hope this information helpful to you .

Regards.
