I Used A Stretchy Cock Ring And Now I Have

default
Posted on Fri, 5 Aug 2022
Question: I used a stretchy cock ring and now I have a lump underneath the skin. Feels like a ball almost, about the size of a pinky nail. Almost feels like it’s attached to a vein because as I go up the vein feels more swollen than usual. It has been a couple days since using. Only had it on for 20 mins or so.

There is no pain related to this when I’m erect, urinate, or ejaculate.

Brief Answer:
May be a small hematoma

Detailed Answer:
Hello, I'm Dr. Branch, thanks for using 'Ask a Doctor'. This may be a small hematoma, which would be a small blood collection under the skin. This may have happened because of the increased pressure in the vein from the penis ring caused a small break in the vein with some bleeding. If so, this should gradually resolve over weeks to months, and wouldn't be anything to be concerned about.

If there is anything visible, if you can send a picture that may help to confirm what this might be as well.

I hope that helps, please let me know if you have any other questions about that, and I would be glad to discuss it with you further.

I can attempt to send a pic if I can get the lump to show in an image. There’s no discoloration or anything like that.

So is there anything that I need to do on my end to help this heal quicker? Ice? No sexual activity? No masturbation? I don’t want to damage any further as I feel like I’m already lucky that this isn’t as big of a deal as I thought it would be.

Brief Answer:
I would take it easy for a few weeks at least

Detailed Answer:
Yes, I would probably take it easy for a few weeks at least, and avoid any sexual activity (including masturbation) if possible. With any luck it will completely resolve in that time, in which case you don't need to worry about it. Using ice or cold for the first few days may help a bit. It doesn't sound like anything serious so I would expect it to completely resolve.

Please let me know if you have any other questions, I'd be glad to help any way I can.

Could you give me a time table for how long before I need to start panicking if it isn’t healed?

Brief Answer:
It may take months to heal

Detailed Answer:
Since the hematoma may leave a small bump there due to scarring, it may take a long time for this to completely disappear, possibly years. So as long as it is not getting worse, I wouldn't be concerned. If you do notice it getting larger, or harder, than I would recommend having a doctor take a look at it and possibly considering an ultrasound to confirm what it is. Also, if it is bothering you and you want to confirm what it is, seeing a doctor and having them take a look and feeling it would likely confirm the diagnosis as well.

And as far as no sexual activity or masturbation, you’re suggesting a 3-4 week break?

Brief Answer:
Give it at least a couple weeks

Detailed Answer:
I would at least give it 1-2 weeks and see if there is any improvement. If so, I would probably continue to avoid any aggravation of it and see if it completely resolves. If it doesn't change much, I don't think it would be harmful to resume sexual activity, though I would probably wait a long time before using something like the penis ring again.

Good morning,

I’d like to attach a photo so that you can see it but I’m not sure how. I tried to add it to my report but it doesn’t look like it worked.

Brief Answer:
I don't see it

Detailed Answer:
Yes, I don't see it, so it seems like it didn't work. You can also send it to my email: YYYY@YYYY , that might be easier.

After you view that. I’d just like to ask. I shouldn’t be discouraged if it’s only been a week and I haven’t seen any type of progress correct? I know you said the time frame before. Just concerning with no sign of getting better.

Brief Answer:
Continue to observe

Detailed Answer:
From the picture it doesn't look like anything too concerning, I would stay with the same plan, observe over the next couple of weeks. If it were to start being painful, or hard, or getting larger, Peyronie's disease would be a consideration, but right now I don't think it looks like that at all. If you were really concerned, a doctor may do an ultrasound of it just to make sure everything looks alright, but I wouldn't say that is necessary at this point, only if you wanted some reassurance.

Please let me know if you have any other questions, I'd be glad to help any way I can.
