Question: I twisted my knee and am now having pain on the inside of my right knee. I can put weight on it, but am having trouble with any other lateral movement. This happened five days ago. What might it be, and do I need to bring in a Dr?

Brief Answer:
may be injury to the ligament

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is possible that there is injury to one or more of the ligaments of the knee joint that are responsible for stability of the joint.

The medial collateral ligament is on the inside of the knee. There is another ligament called the lateral collateral ligament that is on the outer aspect of the knee.
There are others as well but these two are particularly useful in stabilizing the knee (the medial ligament most of all)

It can be only sprained or sometimes there can be more severe injury such as a tear of the ligament
The tear itself can be minor or involve the whole ligament

If there is only a sprain then rest and limiting movement for 1 to 2 weeks would help. Using anti inflammatory medication may also be helpful as well eg ibuprofen, naproxen, cataflam etc
If there is a tear sometimes repair is needed

If the pain or difficulty with movement continues then you may need to be seen, imaging of the knee would be needed at that point

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions

Thank you for your answer Dr. XXXXXXX Does the fact that I can put any weight on it give you any idea of it's severity?

Brief Answer:
means less likely to be severe injury

Detailed Answer:
HI

Sorry for the delayed reply

The fact that you can put weight on it means that it is less likely to be a significant tear or injury

You can consider monitoring to see if your symptoms improve
