Question: I take Carvedilol, 12mg x2/day. I have essential hypertension. It fluctuates for no reason. I did have kidney failure and had a few treatments of dialysis about 10 yrs ago.
No problem with kidneys since then.
I've had a bad (like a migraine) headache for a couple of days.
My BP has been high but I just checked it and it was 182/111. Should I doing anything other than rest and take my next dose of Carvedilol?

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome to Ask a Doctor service!

I understand your concern and would explain that your blood pressure values are very high and this is the main cause of your headache.

I would recommend taking 1 tab Captopril 25 sublingually to help reduce your blood pressure values. Another dose of carvedilol can help too.

If these blood pressure values persist, going to the ER may be necessary.

Considering these blood pressure, I would recommend adding another antihypertensive drug to your therapy. In this regard, I would suggest an ARB ( telmisartan, olmesartan, etc.) or a calcium channel blocker ( lercanidipine, etc.)

Hope you will find this answer helpful!
