I Suddenly Had A Patch Of Blisters In A Clump

default
Posted on Fri, 27 Sep 2019
Question: I suddenly had a patch of blisters in a clump on the back of my thigh. It's painful and the pain seems to be moving up into my groin and into my lymph nodes there. Will send a photo if that's possible. I am in the Philippines.

Brief Answer:
Shingles

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to ask a doctor service. I have gone through your query and viewed the image.

I can see a bunch of blisters in this image. This seems like shingles or Herpes Zoster. It usually presents as a stripe or band of fluid filled painful vesicles on one side of the body due to reactivation of Varicella Zoster virus- the same virus that causes chickenpox. I suggest you to take an oral antiviral e.g valacyclovir or acyclovir or famciclovir for a week. Topically you may use Neosporin ointment, twice daily. You may also take a painkiller e.g Ibuprofen for symptomatic relief from pain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you need any more assistance.

Many thanks doc. That was my guess also which is why I began valtrex. Is it possible to just have shingles manifest only in one spot? I know it usually occurs as you described. However, i am only having the outbreak in that one spot, right thigh, midway between my knee and buttock.

Hi.
Yes, it may occur in a band like distribution with no skip arras or as interspersed areas within a band which may be far and few. Take care.
