Question: I recently went to get a STD test and got my results back. Everything came back negative except HSV1. I never experienced any symptoms or pain I have read online. I’m curious, will this will effect my partner by kissing or intercourse even thou I do mot have any of the symptoms or outbreaks?

Brief Answer:
Regarding HSV 1

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to ask a doctor service. I have gone through your query and noted your con

HSV 1 commonly causes cold sores on or around the lips. It is commonly spread by kissing. The infection is many a times acquired in childhood from non sexual form of kissing rather than kissing of sexual nature. So it is not an STD most of the times. Many people don't even know that they carry this virus as ithe infection is asymptomatic and is detected only on blood test. It can certainly be passed on by kissimg but the chances are very less in case of a dormant /old HSV infection unless one has active lesions of herpes at the time of kissing

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you need any more assistance.
