I have symptoms of a high-pitched sound when I move my jaw up and down while eating, yawning and even when I turn my head sideways to the affected side as well as grinding the teeth. I also have fullness/pressure in the ear when the jaw is motionless. I have now had these symptoms for about 6 months. I went to see the doctor last week who thought it was due to the jaw joint although there is no pain or soreness and recommended that I see a stomatologist but she didn't think it was because the Eustachian tube is blocked. Does this make sense?

I also had an x-ray performed on the jaw a few months ago and it said that the left mandibular condyle is positioned very slightly in front of the most pronounced point of the temporal condyle.

Brief Answer:
Looks like Jaw Joint related problem.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

Well, your explanation is pointing towards Jaw Joint related problem..

You can consult an Oral Surgeon and get thoroughly checked so that you can be examined appropriately.

For now take soft meals, avoid excessive mouth opening like yawning, loud laughing.
Avoid teeth clenching if you do.
Avoid stress by doing meditation and keeping yourself busy as it can also lead to teeth clenching which in turn can lead to jaw joint related problems..

Massage the sides of the face with gentle and round motion of the finger tips..

Hope I have answered your query..

Regards.

Thanks you for your advice which I will follow.

However, is there much treatment that a stomatologist can provide me with and is it normal to still have these symptoms of a high-pitched sound when I move my jaw up and down and fullness/pressure in the ear when the jaw is not moving after about 6 months?

I also often hear a clicking noise by the jaw joint just in front of the left ear when I open my mouth wide.

My doctor thought that I may need to wear a mouth guard at night to correct the displacement of the jaw and also recommended physiotherapy at the same time which I have just started.

I went to see the stomatologist earlier a couple of days ago who said that I have costen syndrome. He said the two sides of the mouth were uneven when I bite and therefore he chipped at three teeth on the right-hand side to balance it since the sounds were coming from the left ear. I will see him again in 3 weeks' time to see if the mouth is even and the symptoms from the ear have disappeared. He also mentioned that I would need a night guard temporarily.

Will the symptoms of the high-pitched sound when I move the jaw up and down and the fullness/pressure in the ear eventually disappear?

Answered by Dr. Honey Arora (3 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Yes, the night guard will help.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Nightguard will help in balancing your bite which in dental terms we call as Occlusion...

It will help in reducing pressure and fullness as well as the high pitched sounds will gradually reduce...

So do not worry, just get the night guards placed and continue to follow up so that the improvement can be monitored...

Hope this helps...

I will not be wearing the night guard until I go back to see him in 3 weeks' time.

However, it does not feel like there is any improvement so far after the treatment. Does it take some time? Many thanks.

I have had these symptoms of noise in the ear for over 6 months. Does it not gradually clear by itself without the need for treatment? Many thanks.

Treatment is needed

Hi..
Well, if there is some problem, it should be treated to get the symptoms resolved..

I do not have any pain around the jaw joint but it just feels uncomfortable as I am always aware of the fullness/pressure from the ear and the high-pitched sounds when I move my jaw up and down. However, the stomatologist said that he could see that there had been grinding on my teeth. He didn't want to repair too much in the mouth the first time as he thought too much of the transformation would cause a lot of pain but the symptoms of the ear sounds have not changed since I saw him. Many thanks.

Grinding of teeth can be a reason for the symptoms.
