Question: I have very painful muscle spasms in calf, back of thigh and behind the knee. I had spinal stenosis and had surgery in October. One doctor told me I had a Bakers cyst but he x-ray was negative. I have some arthritis and had an ACl tear in the same knee. Are they related?

Brief Answer:
Probably muscle spasms, follow the advice below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Your symptoms seem to be related to muscle spasms.

Spinal stenosis can cause irritation or damage to nerves supplying the muscle and result in muscle spasms.

I suggest to use a muscle relaxant such as Baclofen three tablets a day.

I also recommend using an anti-inflammatory cream for local application such as Voltaren cream.

Gentle stretching exercises and massaging the area may help for relief.

I also recommend to use ice compresses for local application.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
