Suggest Remedies For Tingling Sensation In Upper Lip

default
Posted on Tue, 14 Jun 2016
Question: I have some tingling feeling on my upper lip. This is for the first time. It looks like cold sore and its becoming more sensitive since last 2 days. I am thinking of taking some precautionary treatment or apply some cream.
Is Abreva safe to be taken without any prescription?
Also, is it advisable to take any antiviral oral medicine? (Acyclovir ?)

Brief Answer:
Abreva is approved for cold sore by FDA

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Thanks for posting your query.
Abreva is approved by US FDA. So it must be effective against cold sore. I don't have experience with abreva.
Prodromal stage (tingling sensation) before the appearance of blisters and sores in HSV 1 (cold sore) infection is not uncommon. Acyclovir cream is also available in the market. Application of acyclovir cream during prodromal stage could abort that episode as per certain studies and I tried with success.
If it had not been relieved by topical preparations then you can go for acyclovir oral tablets with a guidance of a physician.
Get well soon.

Thank you Doctar for your advice.
Furtheron, I am currently in a remote location in XXXXXXX on tour. I check at the local pharmacy for some cream for Cold sores and was given Cuterpres 1 % ( Active ingredient Ibacitadine, Made in France). Do you have any idea if this is effective?

Alternately, due to being on tour i may not be able to visit a Physician soon. Can i start taking the oral tablets of Acyclovir myself? What dosage are safe?

My sore appear to be in early stage of development. I can see the red spots on upper lips since last 3 days. I understand earliar i take the the treatment the better.

Regards,

Brief Answer:
You will be alright soon

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
HSV infection is a self limiting disease. Even without any treatment it will subside within a week or two.
Acyclovir can be taken in the dose of 400mg. three times a day for 5 days. Cutepres also can be tried. It will be effective.
