I Have Pollen Allergies And, Since My Cataract Surgery Several

Question: I have pollen allergies and, since my cataract surgery several years ago, one eye tears more than the other. This season my allergies are causing a lot of itching and tearing in that eye and the inside corner is swollen and tender to the touch. Today I am noticing some swelling under that eye and in the cheek, with more tenderness where my glasses sit on my nose. I currently take 10 mg of loratidine daily for allergies and that usually takes care of them. It seems as though the tear duct is plugged. Is there anything I can do to reduce the swelling and alleviate some of the itching until I can see my regular eye doctor?

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.

I think you firstly avoid staying in contact with pollen, stay inside or when you travel use car with closed windows.
You can increase loratadine dosage up to 15 mg per day.
Use calamine lotion on the cheek where the itching is to ease itching.
Also use warm compresses on the corner of eye to make open the tears sack if it is plugged as you say.

Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
