Posted on Mon, 19 Aug 2019
Question: I have had upper stomach pain of and on for months. Early this morning, it was a little more intense, like a knot in my stomach. I take a few different BP meds. but I've been taking them for a long time. I take an coated 80mg aspirin too. I'm concerned I have an ulcer but I know heart pain can radiate too. I have had no other heart symptoms, however. XXXXXXX L.

Brief Answer:
Possible intestinal colic.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Sir

I can certainly understand your concern.

I have worked through your attached query in detail.

As per your description the possibility of a ulcer is high in view of long term ingestion of aspirin which has ulcerogenic properties on stomach wall.

Ulcer should be ruled out through Upper Gastrointestinal endoscopy only.

Likewise in view of its colicky nature of pain it's important to rule biliary issues by an immediate Ultrasound abdomen scan.

Meanwhile it's advisable to consider oral antispasmodic medications to control the pain.

Consider visiting an ER if symptoms become intense or severe.

Further management if any is largely based on test reports.

Post your further questions if any.
Thank you
