I Have Had Neck/ Back Pain For The Past 6

Question: I have had neck/back pain for the past 6 years, with weakness in my left leg. I recently noticed a lump on the back left side of my neck. I saw a nurse practitioner and she said it was just my lymph nodes, but I don't think she felt the lump that seems to be on the lymph node. She was more concerned with my nausea and vomiting. These past days I've been looking for an explanation of that being the cause of my pain and weakness. I added in my search the other persistent problems on my left side which are earaches, some difficulty swallowing. And congestion and headaches that occur on that side only. My ear canal doesn't seem to be as wide as it used to be and my ear gets clogged bad. Some symptom checkers suggested lymphoma of some sort. Is that a logical possibility that I should talk to my PvP about?

Brief Answer:
Probably symptoms related to ear infection, follow the advice below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I reviewed your query and here is my advice.

In my opinion the lump that you mentioned through your query is related to a swollen lymph node due to an infection.
Based on your symptoms, it might be an ear infection and tonsillitis.

A physical examination is needed to confirm the diagnosis. I also suggest a complete blood count for further evaluations.

Some advice that I can give to you about the treatment are:
-Take anti inflammatory medication such as Ibuprofen 400 mg three times a day.
-Take prescribed antibiotics. You should consult with your doctor about this treatment.
-use antibiotic ear drops for local treatment
-Gargle with salty water

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

These symptoms aren't new. Only noticing the lump where my neck always hurts is recent. I've went to the care clinics in the past many of times. I've tried steroids, I've tried antibiotics. I haven't been able to keep my head up in a long time. My left leg can barely keep up, and I'm a pretty fit individual. I can feel it in my leg when I turn my head. I feel like the left side of my body is falling apart and has been for awhile.

Brief Answer:
Probably hemiparesis, several examinations should be done to confirm it .

Detailed Answer:
Hi again dear.

I understand your concern .
The lump on the neck is probably due to an infection. I suggest you to do the examination that I mentioned above to confirm this diagnosis.

The other symptoms can be related to hemiparesis. This diagnosis is characterised by weakness in one side of the body.
To confirm the cause you should do the following examinations :
-a neurological examination
-a nerve conduction study
-a MRI

After the examinations you can contact me again for further treatment.

Hope it helps,
Take care dear,
Dr.Dorina Gurabardhi
