Question: I have had a really bad cough for 5 days, caused from what feels like a tickle in my throat. No mucus, sore throat or fever. I threw up bile this morning. Just got back from China, wondering if pollution might have triggered this. No history of respiratory issues, haven’t had a cold in 30-odd years, no other health issues. Ideas?

Brief Answer:
Please add antihistamine

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome in Ask the Doctor

I can understand your concern

As you explain the situation this cough usually is from two causes: viral upper respiratory airways or a hipersensitive situation due to the air pollution. In my opinion in your case is from the second one.

Usually it pasess with the passing days by itself. If it doesn't than you can add as a treatment antihistamines Xyzal tablet twice orally for some days. I don't think that oxygen therapy might play a significant role in this cough however if you will feel better with it no problem.

Do not worry you just follow my advices and wait. I am sure you will be better soon.

Hope to have been helpful
