Question: I have had a persistant non productive cough for the past nine months that is getting worse. While having a ct scan to check for heart blockages the radiologist became concerned about two nodules in one lung and one nodule in the other. Was refered to a pulma nologist who seemed to be more concerned about a sleep study. Can't sleep lying down feel like lungs are filling up when in a prone position. Was treated with a small round of steriods and a cough pill on my request. That did not seem to help at all. Please help me. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Please do a plethysmography test

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome in Ask the Doctor

I can understand your concern

As you explain the situation usually small.nodules in the lungs and especially if they are peripheral do not cause cough and in my opinion this was the reason that the pulmonologist has not given so importance to them and I agree however it would be better for me to have the chest CT images to see them by myself and to be more correct with you.

Nevertheless if you were my patient I would recommend you to do a plethysmography test to rule out also the sleep apnea which causes sleeping problems. If it is positive than the treatment is another one . Please discuss with your doctor for the above

Hope to have been helpful
