I Have Had A Medical Issue That Has Gone On

default
Posted on Tue, 19 May 2020
Question: I have had a medical issue that has gone on for the past 12 months and continues to morph or get worse. I have pain in my spine, back. I then started to get numbness in all four extremities. Then something started to attack my shoulders and rotator cuffs. It's like i have atrophy on my shoulders. I now have numbness in the right side of my face and head. Also numbness in my fingers and feet.

Brief Answer:
Can be due to low levels of vitamin B12.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The feeling of numbness in the extremities can be related to decreased levels of vitamin B12 or electrolyte disturbances or a nerve related issue. You need to have an MRI scan of the spine along with a few blood tests to find out the case. You can also start with methylcobalamin supplements in case your serum Vitamin B12 levels are low and see if it helps.
I hope this answers your query.

On 9.15.2019 my B-12 was 545 and my Folate was 14.0. I have both B12 and Folate supplements. How much Folate and B12 should I take a day?

Brief Answer:
You can get the levels checked again.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.

Vitamin B12 is taken as 1500 mcg daily and folate as 5 mg daily.

It is best to get your levels checked again to see the effect of the supplements you have taken to date. Getting the electrolyte levels evaluated will also help.

Hope my answer is helpful.
