Few details needed

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for using the Ask a Doctor service.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concern. However, I would need you to provide me with the following details:
* How long has it been there?
* Any history of trauma?
* Are you living in a filaria prone zone?
* Can you please upload images of upper and lower limbs of both sides?

Based on your inputs I would guide you further.

Regards

Thanks for answering,
I have noticed the swelling for about 1 year, mostly in the left leg and ankle. I have been treated for a partially blocked left coronary artery and have a pace maker. I noticed when the Doctors check me, the always feel my ankles. I have pointed out the swelling, but received no response until recently i was told I have edema and should wear compression socks, which I am doing. Before bedtime, my right leg measures about 13 3/4 " and my left leg a little over 14". The left leg swelling decreases at night, but is still noticeable in the morning
My left ankle is noticeably swollen. The only trauma occurred 3 years ago when I was struck in the ankle by a softball. (I'm on a team)
I live in the Pacific North West, which is not a filariasis prone zone
There is slight swelling in my left wrist. I've had to let my watch band out one notch, and it still seems to be getting tighter
I have photos, but I can't figure out how to attach them to this communications.

Brief Answer:
Due to poor function of the heart

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. Your ailment is very clear from the description that you have given and upload of images is not needed. The pumping capacity of the heart is reduced. As a result of the same, fluid is accumulating in the tissues around the body and this fluid is unable to drain back to the heart. This leads to the swelling or edema that you have described. It is more evident over bony areas as over the ankle. Your doctor is possibly giving you drugs called diuretics to relieve the situation but possibly they are not enough.
