Question: I have been taking Prozac and xanax 0.5mg 1+1 for 20 years to cure anxiety and depression. I also have IBS. I have asked my doctor to taper or advice newer medications since I am not getting over my symptoms. But he insists on using the same medication. Can you suggest something better or how to taper to avoid long term side effects?

Brief Answer:
Please mention dose of prozac

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.
Sorry for the late response.

Can you please mention what dose of Prozac are you taking? This will help me to guide you about tapering the drug.

We can consider change of drug from the same class of drugs (e.g. citalopram) or from a different class of drugs(e.g. venlafaxine) (prescription drugs).

I would suggest change of class of drugs. You can discuss this with your doctor.

Hope to hear from you soon.
Thanks
