I Have Been Experiencing Stomach Pain/cramps Shortly After I Injured

Question: I have been experiencing stomach pain/cramps shortly after I injured my back while moving in to a new flat. It has been going on for over 1-2 weeks now. There are times when I feel it on my chest but not sure if that is the back pain or the stomach. Sometimes both my stomach and back muscles ache and it doesn%E2%80%99t go away with painkiller but eases when I move a bit and change position in 20-30 mins. I don%E2%80%99t have fever, nausea of any sort. I had diarrhea a little the day before but it is ok now. I usually never have pain in my stomach. I wonder if my back injury has affected my stomach muscles to contract or if it might be a separate issue and if I should get checked on that?

Brief Answer:
Stomach pain may be a side effect of pain killer medications- further advises below

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to "Ask a Doctor" service,

Very likely the stomach pain might be a side effect of the pain medications for the back pain. Some pain killers may cause increased acidity in the stomach and favor gastritis.

You might have some relief if you take Omeprazole 40 mg, 30 minutes before breakfast.
Meanwhile you need to make sure you eat regularly and never leave your stomach empty.
Eating frequent small amount of food during a day (having 4-5 small meals instead of 2-3 big meals might be advisable).
Avoiding caffeine, alcohol and smoking will help relief the acidity in the stomach.
Try to avoid spicy food or acidic food as these might irritate the stomach.

Meanwhile you can continue to use the pain killers for the back pain as long as follow the advises above.

I hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
