It was shredded sharp cheddar cheese. The bag says it is good 5 days after opening. However, i think it's been open for 2 to 3 weeks possibly. It has no visible mold and i don't think it smells bad, although i can't remember exactly what it's supposed to smell like. What are the chances of getting sick from this? I only ate 2 pinches

Hi....
Welcome to "Ask a Doctor" service.
I am Dr Ajeet XXXXXXX

I have gone through your query and here is my opinion.

Usually it is okay to eat cheese even for a couple of weeks past the expiration date.

If there was no visible mold, there was no bad smell or taste and you ate just 2 pinches, there is a remote possibility of getting some significant symptoms of food poisoning.

Though very unlikely,if you get the symptoms like vomiting, stomach pain, and diarrhea, please get medical help.

Hope that I have answered your query.

Stay healthy and stay blessed.
Regards.

Brief Answer:
There is hardly any possibility of symptoms of food poisoning

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.

The time duration for the appearance of symptoms can vary depending on the source of the infection, amount of ingested food, status of body immune system etc.

It can range from as little as 1 hour to as long as 24 hours but it usually appears within 6 hrs of ingestion.

Happy living.
