Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. OTC (Over The Counter) nasal decongestant drops, cold medication, and steam inhalation can help unblock the ear.

2. Auto-inflation exercises such as the Valsalva maneuver (closing the nose and mouth while blowing the cheeks) may help.

3. Ideally you should get an ear drum examination and an Impedance Audiogram/ Tympanogram done. Treatment is usually decided on symptoms and these test results. A Pure Tone Audiogram on a high frequency audiometer and Tinnitus frequency matching can be done.

4. Abnormal ear pressures due to Eustachian Tube Dysfunction, fluid build-up in the middle ear or a hyper-mobile ear drum/ middle ear bones and ligaments can lead to Tinnitus (the constant high pitched whine). This Tinnitus should decrease after successful treatment of the ear.

5. If conservative medical treatment fails, a Myringotomy and grommet insertion helps restore normal middle ear function and relieve the Tinnitus.

6. Treatment and management options can be discussed after your ear examination and audiology test results.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any further questions, I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
