Question: I have a Meningioma tumor at the top of my skull. My doctor has taken two MRI'S over a period of six months. He states that the tumor has grown slightly and wants to use radiation to remove it. What can I expect for side effects using radiation. Is radiation given over a period of time for safety purposes.

Brief Answer:
Radiation therapy for meningioma is safe.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have noted your clinical details. Based on this, radiation therapy for meningioma is a standard treatment procedure and it is fairly safe. It is safer than the other option- open surgery. With radiation therapy, the side effects are uncommon, which if occur, may include headache and fits (seizures) due to slight brain swelling. Even if these occur, they can be easily managed with medications.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,

Thanks.
