Question: I had an extraction over two weeks ago and the oral surgeon put in a collegen plug. It is extremely uncomfortable and I am very aware of it.
I have heard where other people have experienced this with plugs trying to create bone. My question is this - is it removable?

Brief Answer:
It is resorbable and should resorb within 2-3 weeks

Detailed Answer:
Hi there

Thanks for writing in.

Usually, the dentist places resorbable collagen after surgery which absorbs within 2-3 weeks. If it’s still bothering you then check with your dentist and get an xray done to rule out if there is any tooth fragments remaining.

Thanks

Thank u, doctor for your reply. No, no extra tooth fragments. I was asking due to having neuralgia in that exact spot where plug was placed and pain intensified. I know it is comprised of both calcium and collegen but would u know if there are any other additives in this plug?
It's an Osseo-Gen plug. Thanks so much.

Brief Answer:
Could be dry socket

Detailed Answer:
Hi there

Thanks for getting back to me.

I’m not sure about the composition of collagen plug used by your dentist and have never heard any complications associated with it. If you think there is no broken part of tooth, then it could be a dry socket which happens due to smoking after extraction and is extremely painful, which needs sedative dressing to heal.
I would highly recommend you to go and see your dentist for review.

Thanks
Kind Regards
