Question: I had a tooth removed because of resorption it was the back upper molar.. when the dentist pulled it part of the root did not come with it.. that area is still sensitive but does not hurt or throb.. my dentist looked at it ..it looked to him like it was healing well but he did not take any xray.. could the root still be in my gum and causing irritation..? Will the area of sensitivity go away? It has been since July.. it does not hurt but I am aware of some irritation or slight discomfort.. I keep putting my tongue in the hole.

Brief Answer:
Remaining root piece, Xray, no sensitivity

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your query.
I have gone through your query and the image.

As far as the left out root piece is concerned, it will not produce any sensitivity. if it gets infected then you might develop pain and swelling in that area.

Root pieces can be left if the length of the remaining root piece is up to 3mm and if it is in close proximity with the sinus floor or near nerve canal since trying to remove the root piece can result in some injury to those structures. It's better to take an X-ray or radiograph to check how much root piece has been left.

Most of the time these remaining root stumps will be within bone so that will not irritate your gums. The sensitivity can be from the adjacent teeth. Get the adjacent teeth checked for any decay or cervical abrasion.

Hope I have answered your query.

I found some X-rays pics of my tooth.. I am nervous about losing another tooth..I lost one to resorption that you can see on the xray.. I had the back molar removed because it had what looked like a fracture or resorption .. now the tooth in the middle is bothering me at the gum on the side facing the back molar.. will I continue to lose my teeth like this.. what could be causing this .. do I need to see a specialist..what kind of specialist? Anyway I can save the middle tooth with a bone graft? Thanks!

Brief Answer:
Get a fresh xray done, consult an oral physician

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your reply. I have gone through the images which you have uploaded. The image is not clear to comment on it. You need to consult an Oral physician (who has done MDS in oral medicine and radiology) and get it evaluated. You need to get a new radiograph or x ray done confirm the diagnosis. there are usually three roots in first molar. In x ray image which you have uploaded, one root appears to be resorbed. So get a fresh x ray done and after that we can decide whether the tooth can be saved or need to be extracted.
I hope i have answered your query. If any queries are there, reply me back. take care
