Brief Answer:
you are at moderate risk for heart disease

Hello XXXXXXX

Thanks for posting your query. I have read it and understand your health concern.

Firstly, it is possible to have high triglycerides level with a normal cholesterol level. So, there is nothing abnormal about it.

Your triglycerides is at a moderate level high at 470. This puts you under moderate risk for heart disease.

I suggest you follow healthy diet, do aerobic exercises, and maintain ideal body weight.

Hope your query is answered. Do let me know if you have more queries.

Wish you good health.

Brief Answer:
Sucralfate does not cause an increase in triglycerides

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX

I read your follow up query.

Sucralfate does not cause an increase in triglycerides. I am glad your diet is good.

Is it because of you being overweight or obese? May I know your current weight and BMI (Body Mass Index)? High BMI is one of the causes for raised TG (Triglycerides). Do you do regular aerobic exercises?

Please let me know the answers to the above queries. I would be able to help you better.

Isolated increase in TG may be disregarded as not a major health concern. However, in view of your age of 41 years, I would suggest you get a routine ECG (Electrocardiogram) done. Also, if you can get a 2D Echocardiogram done.

Awaiting your response.

Regards,
Dr Shanthi E

My weight is 125 lbs my bmi is 21.5. I am small not overweight at all. I stopped exercising when i started taking the sucralfate. What your saying sounds concerning. I used to eat chips and fried chicken and fried noodles and rice. Could that be it? I stopped now and will get another check up in a month. What can i do to lower my triglycerides before my next blood test? Any vitamins or supplements you recommend?

Brief Answer:
yes, it could be the cause

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX

Thank you for the revert.

I am glad your weight is normal and so is your BMI. Yes, you are not overweight at all.

I suggest you start exercising again; preferably aerobic exercises like walking, swimming, cycling instead of just hitting the gym.

Yes, eating chips, fried chicken, fried noodles and rice definitely makes you increase TG levels. You should avoid them as much as you can. You may get the repeat check up after 6 months of the previous report.

You need to take a healthy and fat-free diet like fresh fruits and vegetables, salads, salmon, skimmed milk, freshly cooked food, brown bread instead of wheat bread, sprouts. Eat more organic foods. Avoid fried and fatty food like you mentioned. Do not consume meat for more than once a week. Better to consume white meat than red meat. Drink plenty of fluids orally like fresh fruit juices.

I would not suggest any vitamins or supplements for you at this stage.

Hope this answers your query.

I wish your health gets better soon. Please follow my suggestions.

Take care.

Regards,
Dr Shanthi E
