Question: I fell down the stairs nearly a year ago and still have a lump on my thigh. There is no more bruise, but a hard lump. Could it be a blood clot? I am not experiencing any pain

Brief Answer:
Unlikely

Detailed Answer:
Hi Costationo,

A blood clot is unlikely after so many years.

If it does not increase in size over months or years, it is probably some hardened scar tissue after the trauma.

If it feels like it is located deep or if it is more than a centimeter or so in diameter (or increasing in size) I would suggest an ultrasound or an MRI.

Hope this is helpful.

Thank you. It has been 11 months and it is a fist sized lump over the muscle in th e side of my thigh. It has decreased in size from the initial injury. There is no acute pain, just mild tenderness. My only concern is that I am starting birth control pills so I wanted to rule out a clot.

Brief Answer:
Seems completely benign

Detailed Answer:
Hi again,

It sounds harmless, you should however have an ultrasound to be sure. Can you send a photo of the lump?

I am going to try and send a picture. Yesterday, to see if the area was tender, I massaged it lightly. Last night, I was up all night with a throbbing in the back of my calf. I bike every day, but normally do not have muscle strain. The lump is a bit sensitive to touch , but causes some numbing throughout my leg when touched. My calf and foot are not swollen, but sore
