I Feel Really Dumb Having To Ask This Question Today,

Question: I feel really dumb having to ask this question today, so thank you in advance for your kindness. :) I am 37 years old and female. I am allergic to Miralax and Delsym. I believe it is the PEG 3350 ingredient that causes my reaction. My reaction includes hives, throat swelling, wheezing, itching, and diarrhea. The reaction is moderate and can be treated at home with 50 mg Benadryl. Here comes the stupid part of my issue: In hearing about the allergic reactions to the COVID-19 vaccine, I learned that they suspect PEG as one of the possible causes. Cue to me bored at home and deciding to see if I was still allergic to PEG since it had been several years since I discovered the issue. I specifically wondered if I would have a skin reaction to PEG. I mixed a hefty dose of Miralax in very little water and applied it to my skin. I waited about five minutes and nothing happened, so I washed it off and went about my business, wondering if I wasn't allergic to PEG anymore. Fast forward 96 hours later and with absolutely no additional exposures to PEG or anything else different, I had my typical allergic reaction as I described above. It was like my whole system suddenly reacted. I was flabbergasted until I remembered by self-administered (and stupid) allergy test. My question is: is it even possible for my reaction to have been caused by the Miralax on my skin 96 hours earlier? It just seems so strange that it was so delayed. If it's not possible it was my Miralax experiment, I guess I need to really investigate what happened (with a qualified doctor, of course). My final question is: what do you think this means for my COVID vaccine? I really want to get the vaccine. Thank you so much!

Brief Answer:
Yes, your reaction might be due to Miralax.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Ask a doctor forum.
I can understand your concern.
Yes, it is possible to have delayed allergic reaction.
So it is possible to have Miralax allergic reaction in you.
Sorry to say but there is no confirmatory test to identify it.
You can go for detailed allergic panel testing which includes drugs, foods, chemicals etc.
And about Corona vaccine, I think you should choose Covishield or Covaxin.
They don't have PEG and can be easily administered in you.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
