I Currently Have, Since Last Friday The 11th Of January,

Question: I currently have, since last Friday the 11th of January, abdominal pains. Upper and middle abdominal pains. I feel a little bloated. I have been a little gassy, both burping a little after drinking or eating, and occasional passing of gas. I have taken some Gas-x, peptobismol (over the counter medication) but did not relieve the pain.
I guess my concern is that with really no other symptoms I am concerned that it could be something like pancreatic cancer. Am I over reacting?
I just saw my doctor two weeks ago but I just did some standard blood work that all came back normal, so there was pretty much nothing else to talk about..

Brief Answer:
an Ultrasound abdomen should be done to look into it further...

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service...
I've gone through your query in details...
I can understand your concerns...

Well, these are a set of non-specific symptoms which can be seen in almost any abdominal pathologies. However, pancreatic cancer would certainly not something that would be suspected, so please don't worry about it...

At this outset, these symptoms mostly pointing towards gastric concerns. However, for further evaluation, an Ultrasound abdomen and a hydrogen breath test should be done. Given your age, I'd also recommend getting an EKG done (as even cardiac complaints can also present in a very similar way)...

Moreover, since the standard blood works come back normal (hopefully they did check the Liver function and amylase, lipase levels too) I'd recommend a few lifestyle modifications as following:

-If you take too many caffeine/caffeinated energy drinks please avoid as they are quite notorious for causing this, please stop them altogether...avoid caffeine at least for the time being and observe how you stay afterward...

-Have simple home-made foods, toasts, organic preparations, home-made vegetable soups, salads; avoid fast/processed foods, avoid refined sugar/sugary products.

-If the motion is clear then ok, otherwise take a laxative for a few days (eg. Syp LACTULOSE 15ml at bedtime) and observe how you stay afterward...instead of Gas-X, Pepto start taking an antacid/PPI (eg. PANTOPRAZOLE 40mg once daily before breakfast for the next 10-14days) and observe how you stay...

-Drink plenty of water throughout the day...

-Avoid smoking/alcohol also (if at all do), they're another known to factors which can further aggravate this condition...

Please discuss these with your doctor and proceed further...

Wish you good health...
Let me know if I can assist you further...

Take Care
Kind Regards
