Question: I am listwning to a repirt on radio about the colon cancer death if a us celebrity. The dr said the procedure should be repeated 3 or 5 years if a precancerous polyp is detected. —-Depending upon the precancerous analysis. Can. You help - what are they meannv by the term. -‘. Have seen your concern and I appreciate it,
When they find a polyp on colonoscopy...A small sample of it is taken out by that machine..That sample is studied under a microscope.
So any cancer has 4 stages plus a precancerous stage.
Precancerous stage means a stage when normal cells have started to show changes but at that point it's not sure if those cells will become cancerous or not.
And therefore colonoscopy is repeated after every 2 year to keep a watch on it .
