Brief Answer:
Fungal Laryngitis is not common.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. Unless the fungal laryngitis has been confirmed by a Videolaryngoscopy, a positive fungal culture (by a throat swab) or following antibiotic or medicated oral rinse overuse, it will be better to get a second opinion. If it is fungal laryngitis, any other condition causing reduced immunity should be ruled out. Non-infectious causes for acute laryngitis should be ruled out.

2. Usually, an acute laryngitis should settle in a couple of weeks and the voice should improve.

3. To speed up recovery, as with an upcoming event, oral and local steroids can help. However this should be done under medical supervision. Other supportive medication such as anti-allergic, anti-inflammatory medication, medicated gargles, warm salt water gargles, home remedies and a bland diet should be considered.

4. If it is indeed fungal sinusitis, I would advise you to seek urgent care and reschedule any events.

5. Upload any reports if you have. Images or a video of the laryngoscopy will help me give you an accurate assessment and suggest further treatment.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.

Brief Answer:
You should go for urgent care / ER.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for writing back.

1. You should go to urgent care/ ER.

2. There are many reports to review. Fungal culture to identify the type of fungus (throat swab, nasal swab, sputum), Chest X-ray, Sinus CT Scan, routine blood investigations, Videolaryngoscopy and so on.

3. This is especially important as you have developed these symptoms with ongoing medication and your ENT appointment is a monthly away.

4. Extensive fungal infections (nose, sinus, chest) are usually seen in low immunity.

5. The thick mucus discharge is also seen in fungal infections and must be investigated. Mucolytic medication action will help.

6. Keep me informed about the progress.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.

Brief Answer:
Try hypertonic saline nasal washes.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for writing back.

1. Yes, that us a good decision.

2. The nasal washes will not cause any harm unless the water is the source of the fungus.

3. Hypertonic saline will be more useful for clearing out the thick mucus.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
