I Am A 54 Year Old Male, In Good Health.

Question: I am a 54 year old male, in good health. This past week I had a swelling, or puffiness start at the top and base of my neck down to about the hollow of my neck. It is puffy not really swollen. Springy to the touch. On top of the muscle it feels to me. I had a yearly physical scheduled and my GP really felt around to see if she could feel any lumps or swollen lymph nodes. She said she really couldn’t feel anything significant but could see and feel the swelling. I had an ultra sound but don’t have results yet. I have not been sick recently. In otherwise good health. I take blood pressure medication. I have been extremely stressed at work.

Brief Answer:
Possible lipoma or pulled muscle

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome to Ask A Doctor service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

This may indicate swollen lymph node, lipoma or pulled muscle. In every case this is benign and you should not worry about it. I suggest to rest, take painkillers and apply cold compresses. Keep posture straight at work. If this persist you should do MRI scan for further work up.

Wish you good health. Regards
