Question: I am 87 yrs old and eat prunes to help my bowels move. I must have swallowed one prune pit without noticing it, because I know I had 4 prunes with juice, and only had 3 pits left when I finished.

Brief Answer:
Should pass through the bowel after 3-5 days.

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Thank you for using "Ask a Doctor" service.

I read your question and I understand your concern.

I guess you mean a prune pit with the shell? It should be ok and you should see it in your stool in the coming 3-5 days.
The prune pit does not have sharp edges so should pass through quite easily.

But if in any case you have belly pain, or have constipation or blood in your stool then consider calling your family doctor. Because of your age and the problem you have with constipation, it can cause a problem but that is a very low chance.

Anyway, you cannot do much for the moment but just eat healthily and drink plenty of water to avoid constipation, check your stool for the pit in the next bowel movements, and do not worry.

Hope this is helpful. Let me know if I can assist you further.
