How To Test For Dtetection Of HIV?
Question: HI. I had a risk of exposure on 19th May (insertive vaginal sex / status unkown). I started PEP on 20th May (32 hours after event) for 28 days. That completed on 18th XXXXXXX
I started to develop a mild fever (37.5) about 5 days after completing PEP along with a mild sore throat.
I've just had a PCR test as well as duo test (P24 antigen and antibody test).
I understand that the duo test is too soon after PEP to be reliable, but I've read that there can be instances of false positives from PCR testing. Does the duo test give me any reassurance (either way) if done at the same time as the PCR test.
I guess what I'm asking is, if the PCR test comes back positive for HIV infection can I reasonably expect a positive result from the duo test at the same time?
I am incredibly anxious and hoping against hope that my 'symptoms' of seroconversion are stress releated.
I also fully understand that for maximum proof I need test at 28 days and 3 months post completion of PEP.

I understand your concerns & have read through your detailed description of events & tests.
Rest assured, you have a 'stress' related issue...I don't envisage any problems.
Anxiety can be a double edged sword especially when one is an intelligent person as you seem to be.
I know it is easy to preach but have had a lot of patients with similar issues but have all come out negative...so chill! You have the added benefit of having completed a PEP.
Wait for the PCR result & if all normal, go ahead & live your life but do remember to always practice "safe sex" always! Godspeed.
