Question: I am 40 years old married for 10 years with no children. Diagnosed with BC in 2010, had chemo, surgery and radiation and currently taking tamoxifen and aspirin.

I am 42 Kg, weight 167 cm, I was 38 Kg in the past and gained some weight after BC diagnosis. My Hb was 85 gradually declined to 74 and now stable in 68. I have IBS, sometimes light stools, floating and sometimes soft or hard. I observed that my stools have some tiny pieces like jelly sweet very very tiny and red light red in color. I did occult test and was negative. I have no diarrhea or vomiting or pain in my stomach. Very rare I have some cramps but very mild.

I did U/C and blood works and all came normal

1. How can I put on weight specially that I started developing fear from anaphylaxis from food

2. I have no known allergies to food

3. I have tightness in my upper stomach and a burning sensation in my tongue specially when I am hungry

4. Sometimes I have no appetite to food

5. How can I maintain myself healthy

Brief Answer:
eat calorie dense foods

Detailed Answer:
Hi

I have gone through your history

You can put on weight by eating calorie dense foods like nuts and seeds whenever possible. Small changes like adding nuts to your vegetables and peanut butter to your toast can make a big difference.

I will advise you to eat small meals every 2 hours instead of 3 large meals, as small meals are easier to digest.

Exercise shortly before eating. Exercise can help boost your appetite and make food more appealing.

Increase your protein intake. If you are having trouble eating meat and/or fish, try substituting easily digestible proteins like eggs, dairy, and soy.

Drink 4 ounces of water mixed with 1 tsp. of lemon juice 30 minutes before you eat. Lemon juice and water help to stimulate digestion.

Add protein powders to your diet. Ideally, it is best to get your protein from natural sources, but if that is not possible, whey, soy, and powdered milk are all viable options.

Avoid drinking fluids when you eat. Drinking fluids with meals creates a feeling of fullness that will make it difficult to consume your food.

As you are having tightness in your upper stomach and a burning sensation in your tongue i would advise you to take proton pump inhibitor group of drugs before food with your doctors advise.

To increase your appetite you can take cyproheptadine syrup 2 tsf half an hour before you take food.

You can maintain yourself healthy by choosing to eat a diet filled with fresh fruits and vegetables and other unprocessed, low-fat foods which helps cancer survivors regain strength after treatment.

Nutritious eating can also reduce the risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, obesity, and diabetes.

Do physical activity regularly.

If you have been inactive for a long time, start with 10 minutes of walking a day and build up.

Add exercise to your everyday activities and chores by walking to the store, taking the stairs, or by parking farther away from an entrance.

Exercisee while doing other activities, such as watching television or listening to music.

Find an exercise partner or group that keeps you motivated and provides friendly support.

If you are coping with fatigue, try to exercise when you have the most energy.
