How To Overcome Food Stuck Between Gum And Teeth?

default
Posted on Sat, 7 Feb 2015
Question: Hi Doctor,

I have recently started feeling problems between my couple of teeth and gum. It feels like food is getting stuck between gum and teeth and it pains after few hours.

As a remedy, I started using sensitive toothpaste and cleaning my teeth with finger after each food. I am also doing toothbrush twice a day for last few years and been doing regular brushing prior to that and never faced tooth/gum problem in my life so far.

Please advise what additional prescription/suggestion you have for me to keep my Gum tight and stuck with my teeth. Let me know if any question, thanks Doctor in advance.

Brief Answer:
Do flossing!!

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
First of all thanks for approaching Healthcaremagic for your query.

I read through your query and accordingly I must say that there is nothing much to be worried in this situation.
Food gets stuck between the tooth for everyone. But as you are doing well to keep up a good oral hygiene I must congratulate you for this good initiative.
Next regarding the food getting stuck you can use dental floss(can be done after having food or twice at morning and night) to remove food in between the teeth and also gums and teeth. The flossing technique you can watch from youtube (it will be better understood if you see than me merely explaining through writing now). You can also inter dental brushes to clean the food debris stuck between the teeth and gums.

I also suggest you to meet up a dentist and get it cleaned(scaling) regularly once in 6 months. Also you can follow your regular oral hygiene habits besides these.

Drink lots and lots of water. Water removes a lot of food debris stuck between the tooth and gums.

Follow these mentioned steps and also continue your good oral hygiene habits and keep your mouth and mind clean and cool.

Stay happy!!!

Thanks Dr. XXXXXXX for the suggestions. I am a little hesitant of using floss because it might hurt my gum by putting wire in between my teeth.
Can you please recommend any flossing product which is easy to use?

Regards,

Thanks Doctor for your suggestion about the floss. I have seen youtube videos about it and I think I should be good to start flossing from this weekend after buying it.

I just have one more follow up question regarding scaling. I have a prejudice about scaling that it will remove enamel from my teeth and might be harmful in the long run. Please advise if my belief holds any ground. Thanks.

Brief Answer:
scaling never ever removes normal enamel!!

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX Thanks for your reply.

I congratulate for your deep interest in oral hygiene practice.Regarding scaling I must say that scaling only removes the hard debris on the tooth surface and it will never remove enamel(enamel is most hardest substance in the body which requires too much force to be removed.
scaling only uses very less force) So I must say that your belief has to be removed and go to dentist and get the scaling done once in every 6 months.

Hope you have benefited from my reply.
