Question: Hi Doctor, my son's date of birth is 23rd Jan'14. He is just 3 months old. his weight was 5.4 Kgs 10 days back and now is 5.1Kgs. both the weights were taken from different scales, doctors and locations. the new doctor says its Ok considering the error in scales. he was on bottle feeding for 1 month (till 15 days back) and now on mother feeding. His Mother is worrying that the current milk supply might not be enough due to which baby's weight is reducing. she is feeding him for 15 mins for every 2hrs. mother is eating half a litre milk a day with wheat bread along with regular south indian meal options. pls suggest healthy options (we are eggarians) to increase milk supply and techniques to know if mother's milk supply is Ok / Not Ok.

Brief Answer: Relax output will improve Detailed Answer: Hi Thanks for writing to health care magic. Relax. There is no need to panic. 1. You had mentioned that your baby was treated for pneumonia and now that he is well and taking breast feed for atleast 15 min every 2 hours. This frequency is definitely good. 2. To judge if the breast milk is adequate for your baby , we pediatricians generally advice parents to look at increase in weight, urine output atleast 6 to 8 times a day, sleeping in between feeds, remaining active and playful. As your wife has restarted breast feeding again for the past few days after change from bottle, her milk quality and quantity will increase only WITH REGULAR SUCKING AT BREAST BY BABY. SUCKING RRFLEX IS THE BEST WAY TO INCREASE MILK OUTPUT. Why don't you check your baby,s weight again in a week . It will definitely increase . 3. To increase quality and quantity of breast feeds I would suggest a) constant breast feeding every 2 hours for atleast 15 min. b) One litre of milk and 3 litres of liquids everyday for the mother. c) feeding in relaxed dark atmosphere. d) If nothing works perinorm tablets can be given three times a day but under medical supervision for a few days only. Wishing your baby good health Regards Dr Arun

Brief Answer: perinorm is better Detailed Answer: Hi, Thanks for writing back. Change to perinorm , that's better. Paladai is a spoon with a spout used traditionally in India . Search Google for the image, you will know . It is available all over India but in different local names. Regards
