Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.

I have gone through your query and here are the answers:
1. Calculating back from your expected date of delivery, it is likely that you conceived in early January. Perhaps you had a period around the 18th of December and this means that you had your fertile period around the first week of January presuming you have 28-30 day cycles. Expected date of delivery or EDD is calculated from the first day of the last menstrual period.

2.I do not understand why you took the depo shot when your doctors told you were pregnant by the time. Anyway, please do not worry. Though it is a category X drug which means that it should not be used in pregnancy, studies have not shown any major defects. It is possible that the genital development of the fetus is affected, especially if the drug is used at 45 days of pregnancy. There can be virilization of a female fetus and abnormal gonadal development of a male fetus. Yet, this is not substantiated in human studies. Low birth weight is another possible complication, but, this does not affect later development.

Hope your query has been answered. Please feel free to contact for further clarifications. I will be happy to help.

Brief Answer:
Perhaps the tests were done early.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing back.

I can understand that you were given the depo shot after the doctors ruled out pregnancy. Perhaps it was a typo error in your earlier query.

Home pregnancy tests or the urine tests read well when performed with a fresh early morning sample 3-7 days after the missed period. In your case, I thing the test was done earlier than this period.

Blood test for pregnancy is positive only after day 21 of a 28-day cycle. If done earlier, it may not read positive owing to the low hormone levels. To be more predictive, it is done at least ten days after the last sexual intercourse which happened during the fertile period.

Hope this helps. Please get back if you need any more information.

regards,
Shanti.V.
