How Should Digestive Issues Due To Secondary Lactose Intolerance In A Toddler Be Managed?

Question: Sorry about above.

1 Year old with secondary lactose intolerance.

All was ok until the last 7 days when it has flared again. He has not consumed anything lactose related in 7 days.

He originally got sick after a stomach bug and has been sick on/off with diarrhea from 7 months. Lactose free originally cured the symptoms but now they seem to not make a difference.

Brief Answer:
Need few more details dear.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Before coming to answer I would like to know few more details;
Was a Hydrogen breath test or Lactose tolerance test was done on the baby or was it just a clinical symptomatic diagnosis?
Was a stool routine and culture sensitivity test of the kid done to rule out any protozoal or bacterial infection?
What were the medications that were earlier used to treat the baby?

Please reply asap,
Waiting.
Thanks!

Brief Answer:
Follow up.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

The patient should be tested for lactose intolerance. This test should be positive for labeling patient as lactose intolerant.
Very likely the kid is suffering from Recurrent infection of gut called gastroenteritis.
Up to an age of 5 years frequent viral infestation of gut is normal.
Investigations suggested-
Lactose tolerance test
Ultra sound abdomen
Stool test and culture sensitivity.

Treatment-
Course of anti-helmenthic like Albendazole 5ml once daily for 3 days.
5 days course of Ofloxacin 5ml twice daily with Metronidazole 5ml thrice.
Oral zinc solution.
Give kid oral rehydration solution and water.

Follow up with reports.
