Brief Answer:
Please find details below

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.

1. The enlarged adenoids is a soft tissue seen at the back of the nose and mouth and this has been seen on X ray.

2. Many small children have this problem and treatment is usually surgery. If surgery is not done then the child might have frequent throat and ear infections. He will also have difficulty in swallowing and breathing at night.

3. This surgery has some risks like bleeding and infection at the area of surgery. However the ENT surgeon will take care to minimize complications. There is also associated risk of anesthesia and if your son has allergy to medicines then please discuss with the doctor.

4. The operation is to be done immediately if any one situation is present
(i) your son is getting sore throat and ear infection more than 3 to 5 times in a year
(ii) antibiotics do not work in treating throat and ear infections

5. The surgery might take 30 minutes but shifting and giving anesthesia might take over an hour.

Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Regards,
Dr.Vivek
