How Often Does Breast Cancer In Same Breast Recur?
Question: How often does breast cancer in same breast recur and is lumpectomy and radiation workable the second time? Do I need a mastectomy at 75 years. First one 16 years ago with lumpectomy and radiation. Neither fast growing. Surgeon thinks mastectomy, my hematology oncologist and radiation oncologist say the lumpectomy with radiation again should work.. Surgeon says he will do what I want, but if it occurs in the next five years, mastectomy is only "choice." I agree with that.

There is no doubt that in case if recurrence of malignant disease,mastectomy should be done. Everything else would be to risky even in younger woman. Radiation can't cure tumors residuals if this was not removed completely and radically with clear margins and with lumpectomy,you would risk that small tumor growths are left. Wish you good health.
