How Often Can I Take Curam For Sore Throat And Chest Congestion?
Question: Good morning. I went to the pharmacy asking for something for a flu I have had for over a month but with the bad weather conditions here I haven't been able to get rid of. They prescribed me with Curam 1 g. I have sore throat , congested chest, my nose has been bleeding, and obviously a bit of fever. How often can I take this medicine please.

Welcome to HCM. I am Dr Anshul Varshney. I understand your concern.
You seem to be suffering from Upper Respiratory tract infection (URTI).
In most of the cases the URTI is off viral in origin and is self limiting, but if the fever is high grade or there is any pus in pharyngitis, we add antibiotics like Amoxycillin (Curam). However, the antibiotics should be avoided as far as possible to prevent resistance.
So, let the doctor decide you need antibiotics or not.
Apart from antibiotics, You should take anti allergic drug like Cetrizine that will help you in running nose and will help in decongesting the throat.
In case of severe throat pain, you can add a tablet of Aspirin in water and do
gargles with that.
You may take Paracetamol on as or when required basis for fever and body pains.
