How Many Units Should I Take Of Lantus Vial While Previously Taking 180 Units Of Lantus Solostar?

Question: Hello, if I take 180 units of Lantus Solostar from the pen needle and then switch to the Lantus vial, how many units should I take from vial. I switched about 6 weeks ago because of the high pen cost with Medicare coverage. Thanks.

You should take 180 Units of lantus vial that is equal to 180 Units of lantus solostar.
The insulin glargine dosage in both is the same 100 Unite per ml, only way of administration is different.

Dr. Xhufka,

I've been suffering for many weeks with high glucose symptoms. I have been taking only 90 u ever since I switched, per the doctor's instructions. That explains why I have been having glucose readings around 250 when I usually have them in the 100's. I'll start taking the 180 units today. I used to take 90 u in the AM and 90 in the PM while using the Lantus Solostar pen.
