How Long Should I Continue Triamcinolone Ointment For Itchy Bumps On Pubic Area?

Posted on Thu, 27 Aug 2015
Question: I have been having itching with skin colored bumps on my pubic area that first started after shaving, but really did not resolve. It does improve some with Triamcinalone ointment. Should I continue a certain length course or could this be related to something else?

Brief Answer:
Fungal infection; topical and Oral antifungal

Detailed Answer:
Hello.

I have reviewed the Images.
They are not distinctly clear and certainly I would have prefered better Images but I can make out some red patches in this Image. I think there is a bit of scaling as well over the patches.

I would think more in terms of a fungal infection and therefore I suggest you to use a topical antifungal e.g either clotrimazole 1% cream Or Miconazole nitrate 2% cream, twice daily. Triamcinolone acetonide 0.1% ointment is a plain topical steroid rather than an antifungal cream & though it would provide symptomatic relief from itching, it would not cure fungal infection.

If I was the treating doctor I would have also started you on an Oral antifungal e.g Once weekly fluconazole 150 mg tablet for 4 weeks.

An OTC oral antihistamine e.g cetrizine 10 mg once daily will provide you symptomatic relief from itching.

Regards
