How Long Injection Site Numbness Takes To Heal?

default
Posted on Mon, 26 May 2014
Question: How long should numbness last when a person is using intramuscular injections on a daily basis on the thigh muscle? Since the injections continue there is no time for the numbness to heal - Also the muscle feels very sore on the inside - as if I have been exercising the thigh muscles too much. I just want to confirm this sort of soreness and numbness is normal when injecting daily - thank you.

Brief answer...given below
Detailed answer...
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
Injection site numbness differes from person to person and from medication to medication. In general this numbness goes away in few days after stoppage of injections.
There are various ways by which this numbness can be managed,like....
..keep rotating the sites of injection. You can rotate from one hand to other hand and from one thigh to other thigh.
This way you get four days in between for easing of numbness.
...massaging the injection site after the injection so that medicine is dispersed.
If you follow this, then your numbness shall go away soon.
I hope it helps, however you may revert to me or any further query.
Best of luck
Thanks

Do you mean soreness / pain ? - it is not just around the injection site - both of my whole thighs are very achy and sore - (but I have given many injections all over them) - also the numb areas on each thigh are very large - almost the entire thigh - but again I have been injecting over this whole area on a daily basis for several months. Thank you in advance for your reply

Hello,
Multiple injections over a period of many months have resulted in this problem.Superficial small cutaneous nerves have been injured either by direct injection of medicines over them or by pressure of medicine on them.Very frankly speaking there is no specific treatment for them except waiting and watching them to regenerate themselves and taking oral VIT B12 to help them in regeneration. The regeneration may take many months.
Moreover stop injecting anymore in these areas.
Thanks
