Brief Answer: Case of wound in basal cell carcinoma Detailed Answer: Hi I understand your concern regarding your skin problem and I hope I am able to help you in the same . Since you are applying 5 fluorouracil over the lesion of basal cell carcinoma , so the kind of skin reaction that you are developing was very much expected. This agent basically acts upon the cancer cells and eradicates them . It is normal to develop redness and irritation over the area. Even fluid filled blister and weeping wounds can develop. All of these are an indication that the medicine is working. Now it is important to take proper care of the area. You should prevent any kind of sun exposure of the area. Keep it covered or wear a cap if it is on the face. Alternately , you can use a good sunscreen when out in the sun . Sunlight can exacerbate the redness and irritation further. Also another important thing is the prevention of any secondary infection . If case there is a raw area which has developed , you can apply a topical antibiotic cream like neosporin over the affected area in between. This will keep the wound clean. You need to be patient since this wound and redness will take sometime before it completely heals. Hope it helps Please ask if you need any further clarifications Dr Geetika Paul
