How Long Does Recovery From Seizure Take?

default
Posted on Wed, 4 Nov 2015
Question: Roughly one and 2/3 months ago my husband suffered a heart attack caused by sepsis and then pneumonia. About two weeks later he had a few partial seizures. He is now off of Keppra, but still sleeps a great deal and has a very short attention span and difficult to understand speech, and is very weak.

Over what period of time would you think it is reasonable to consider that healing is still taking place vs. what you see is what you're going to have?

Brief Answer:
Prolonged period

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

Healing process especially neurological is very slow and most often partial. It is difficult to predict the rate of recovery and it is largely governed by
1. Age of the patient 2. Type of injury 3. Region of the brain injured.

In your husband I would predict partial recovery over 6-9 months and it is important that he seeks professional help during this period of cognition from a psychologist.

I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me

Regards

I would rather have an answer from a neurologist than a kidney specialist.
