How Long Does Injured Knee Area Take To Heal In Old Age?

default
Posted on Wed, 18 Mar 2015
Question: I fell in a bathroom on holiday last year and hurt my knee badly. It was at the end of May. I put arnica cream very quickly and did not get a bruise but pain. Nothing is broken but my knee is still hurting a bit when I do gardening. Is this normal after all this time? My doctor said it will take along time to heal because of my age. I am 75. What do you think. Many thanks for your reply. XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
anti inflammatory pain meds would help

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The rate of healing of any injured area does slow down with aging. Another factor would be any decrease in bone density as a result of your age, this would also affect any healing if there was any bruising of the bone.

Normally , however, it should not take months for complete healing to occur.

It is possible, if there is any arthritis of this joint (in some cases there may be mild arthritis that is not detected), that the injury would have worsened it and this is the reason for the persistent pain.

If the pain is severe or persistent then the use of anti inflammatory medication may help.
This includes meds such as ibuprofen/ naproxen/ aspirin/ cataflam.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
